How does the image upscaler increase resolution without AI?
It uses high-quality interpolation to redraw your photo at a larger pixel size, then applies an optional sharpening pass to restore edge clarity that interpolation naturally softens. It won't invent new detail the way an AI model can, but it produces a clean, larger version of your image instantly and privately.
Will upscaling make my photo blurry?
Enlarging any image softens fine detail somewhat, since new pixels are estimated from the originals. Sharp mode and the sharpening slider counteract this by boosting edge contrast after the resize, and the before/after slider lets you compare the result before exporting.
What's the difference between Smooth, Sharp, and Pixel Art modes?
Smooth uses high-quality interpolation for natural photos. Sharp uses the same interpolation plus a stronger sharpening pass, better for text, logos, and detailed photos. Pixel Art disables smoothing entirely so each original pixel becomes a crisp block, ideal for game sprites and pixel-style artwork.
Is there a limit to how much I can upscale?
You can enlarge up to 8x, and exports are automatically capped at 6000px on the long edge to keep processing fast and your browser stable. If a chosen scale would exceed that, the tool automatically reduces it and lets you know.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Every part of the process runs locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere.
