Frequently asked questions
What size should an Instagram Story be?
Instagram recommends a 1080×1920 (9:16) image for a Story, matching the full-screen vertical shape of the phone.
Why do you show shaded overlay bars?
Instagram overlays your username, timestamp, and profile picture near the top of a Story, and a reply field near the bottom. Keeping faces and key details out of those bars stops them from being covered up.
Should I crop my photo or keep the whole thing?
Turning off "Fill frame" keeps every pixel of your original photo and adds letterboxing if the aspect ratio doesn't match. Turning it on crops the photo to exactly fill the 9:16 Story with no bars.
What does the zoom slider do?
It scales your photo up inside the 9:16 crop so you can recentre the important part of the image, useful when your source photo is much wider or shorter than a Story.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Every resize happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Files never leave your device, so there's nothing to upload and nothing stored on our end.
